Detroit Business is reporting that Transformers 5 will begin its filming at the Michigan Motion Picture Studios in Pontiac.
“They have filmed several Transformers productions (at the Michigan Motion Picture Studios) in the past, and I expect they would utilize some of the same locations,” says Jenell Leonard, commissioner of the Michigan Film and Digital Media Office, formerly the Michigan Film Office. “However, all production locations are tentative and fluid.”
Leonard expects that production on Transformers 5 will start in the summer and will end in the fall. Transformers 5 will be the fourth film in the series shot in Michigan, joining the original 2007 film as well as Transformers: Dark of the Moon and last year’s Age of Extinction. In Age of Extinction, Paramount created a set in downtown Detroit on the site of the former Statler Hotel that was designed to look like Hong Kong.

I grew up right around the corner from what is now the Michigan Motion Picture Studio. It used to be a K-Mart with an adjacent video store that had the original TMNT in the lobby. True story.

That's a 22 minute drive from my house, or 25 minutes from my work at the GM tech center where they filmed some of the last movie.

transformers movies are becoming what I call an alimentary movie.
If serves one purpose, to put food on the table, that's it.
they are milking the cow to the point of killing it.

Perhaps it's for naught to even mention it, but it's slightly depressing that the only reason Bay is coming back to the franchise AGAIN is because studios don't want to make other types of movies. It depresses me for the film industry as a whole and for this beloved franchise that directors are HAVING to make films like this in order to continue working. Fortunately Bay knows what works for the franchise in a filmic setting, but I can't help but feel fresh blood and a fresh perspective might have been nice.
