We’re kicking off the next wave of our gallery updates of the most recent assortment of Combiner Wars toys, and this time we are focusing on Combiner Wars Legends Wave 5. Leading off with our coverage on this assortment, we’re giving some love to the Decepticon spy, Buzzsaw!
A new mold, Buzzsaw is a pretty cool little guy. A triple changer, he can switch between smartphone, vehicle, and condor modes, and this is a really clever move on Hasbro’s part to do a “real gear” Transformer while also offering an alternate mode that you can “play” with. The vehicle mode – a forklift type thing – is the weakest mode, but there’s an alternative transformation to make it into a tank if you rotate the forks up and plug some guns into the 5mm ports. The smartphone mode is nicely detailed, thanks to three stickers making up the screen (though they do not seem to adhere well on the edges). Bonus points for the headphone socket actually taking a headphone jack! The condor mode is classic Buzzsaw, the design is spot on as far as reinterpretations go. I was a little disappointed that the wings could not lift up, though, and that the feet are fixed in one position, which limits display options.
All in, though, Buzzsaw is a neat little Decepticon, and a nice look at the new series of Blaster and Soundwave minions coming our way later this year under the Titans Return banner. Check out our shoot of Buzzsaw by opening the link below:

I still plan to get him flaws and all.
The stickers in tablet mode have me concerned though.

Have to agree, even the G1 Buzzsaw looks better but luckily ever since the MP version of him and Lazerbeak I've been content.

This guy sucks horribly — having a comparison shot with Booster X-10 (aka Laserbeak by any other name…) just highlights how poor his robot mode is. Then compare to what was done with the masterpiece version (not to mention Shockwave from the same wave), and I just don't see much excuse for the shoddy engineering he suffers from.
If the wings wound up half as thin and had some articulation, I could hang with it, but as is he's a blocky rectangular phone that turns into a blocky rectangular kinda-if-you-squint forklift that turns into a blocky rectangular kinda-if-you-squint condor…

I love these little tablet bots, and another great gallery.

Looks fun/neat. Will definitely pick him up.

As it happens, I currently have my Buzzsaw posed on Leader Megatron's arm, as well. I prefer the fan mode for the wings, though. That's the real tragedy is that they could have made this guy twice as bad ass if they'd just made the wings work in the fan mode instead of the weird configuration they went with.

Got both him and Shockwave and I love them both for different reasons.
Buzzsaw is just so much ridiculous fun. His phone mode is wonderful, even with the stickers. His vehicle mode is stupid but I can see it being more fun when used with Titan Masters and his bird mode is so blocky and dorky it's adorable.
Shockwave on the other hand has a magnificent cannon mode. A flying cannon is extremely practical and lethal, characteristics I can see Shockwave having in his altmode. His bot mode colors and proportions are just spot on, with enough detail and contrast between shapes and colors to make him one of my favorite Legends figures and one of my favorites of all time.
Can't wait for the rest of the minions. I want a Lazerbeak to keep on Soundwave's arm while Buzzsaw is on the shelf alongside the other Legends
Starscream 91
Haven't gotten Shockwave yet but for me this is the best of the Legends in the CW line. IMO.
Slingshot
Definitely the best Decepticon Legends figure released in CW. The weird mode with wheels is for Titanmasters, as there is a peg for them on top of the vehicle.
I really don't get the hate for this mold. However, I think we can all agree the Ravage (that guy has been getting some poor figures recently) mold is the worst out of the legends so far.
Afterburner
He kind of sucks. The only good mode is the phone mode, and even that isn't great really. The wings in bird mode are just too thick and he doesn't look right except from above. And that vehicle, well it is nothing really.
I like him in theory. In execution, he feels like an Armada toy. Chunky and doofy and bright, but no real style or substance.
Underlord
Loving the gallery, but I'm not going be adding him to my collection. The only one I want from this wave is shockwave. Plus I'm still waiting on legends kickback
PredaConvoy
Nice pics, as always. And a fun toy, definitely one for the younger TF fan. Slimmer wing transformation and a little more poseability might have saved him for me, but I think it's a no as he is. I may cave in and get him if I see him reduced at any point, depending on how I feel about TR Soundwave..
