We are carrying on our series of galleries of the latest wave of Combiner Wars releases with a look at Deluxe Wave 5. First up in this series is Brawl!
Brawl is the only one of the five Combaticons who is a complete new mold. He’s got a very faithful recreation of the look of his Generation 1 toy, from his tank design, to his robot mode chest, to even the way that his combiner foot attaches to the vehicle mode. Unfortunately, Brawl is possessed of a few flaws that really hold him back. The big one is the waist – it is an unusual design that feels like it stops half-way, and it does not lock in too firmly. The shoulders and elbows are also quite constrained, and the tank turret does not rotate. The arm mode also has issues staying pegged together on mine.
With those negatives out of the way, it remains to be said that Brawl is a fantastic looking toy – he really captures the look of the character – and he does possess some very good points, such as a different transformation style compared to half of the Combiner Wars deluxes, a good range of options for displaying him with his weapons, and most pleasingly, ankle tilts that allow for a good level of stability in all poses. The deco, while fairly bare bones, is also on point for the character’s look. Overall, one I’d recommend, both as an individual and also as the left leg of Bruticus. Check out his gallery to decide for yourself.

This is one of my favorite recent releases. The colors just look excellent. I do share the gripe about the mid-section not locking in very well but I won't be playing with him other than the transformations.

Good pics there. I gotta admit, I'm disappointed at that mid section issue. The main reason I was wanting to get the Unite Warriors set (more than a possible shuttle Blast Off) was to see if Takara might have taken some corrective issue with it.
However, after finding CW Vortex and Swindle in store, I'll probably just settle for Hasbro's Brawl since I mainly plan on displaying him in leg mode combined as Bruticus anyway.

I saw some pics shared to the Reprolabels group on Facebook earlier of such a custom. Redo the head in white and blue, and work some yellow into the chest, and he makes a good version of the mold.
Hmm, in fact – what if that is the freebie with TCC FSS 4.0, another Wrecker to go with Impactor?
doomtron
Don't care what people say I love this guy

Brawl = Leopard 2 A5
Tank mode is (modified) Leopard 2 A5.
Looks great.
Already have Warbotron so no need for him as Brawl.
But like this mold so might get him, give him Autobot insignia and pretend he's Guzzle.
Just to have a reason of buying him.
flik68
yeah show us takara's brawl. that would be actual news.
Autovolt 127
GerTank mode is so friggin awesome.
I hope Takara's QC for their Brawl is an improvement.
Dev1160
Love the GoBot throwback picture.
I hope Takara addresses the waist issue and gets the color right.

Not a big fan of Brawl, myself (on the other hand, Swindle is essentially perfect). Fortunately, since he'll be spending all his time as Bruticus's left leg, the robot mode flaws don't bother me too much.
optimusmegas
even with his waist issue i find him fun to mess with. of course he's a great addition to the team.
the waist on mine fits in fairly snug i know others werent' so lucky. all and all i dig him. he's got vortex's gun since vortex now has the PE hand as a weapon. i just couldnt' bare to give him the tank cannon for a gun and break up that silhouette with the gun barrel pointed up that he's pretty known for.
good review

I like him I guess. I had him as a kid, Had all of Bruticus except for blast off actually. and I just got the combiner wars version in from hasbrotyshop the other day along with swindle and blast off. I ordered Vortex today since he just showed up in stock. My biggest complaint about Brawl is the stubby arms, when I first opened him I HATED it, but they are starting to grow on me now that I have him at my desk to pose around. I also don't like how his legs fold up to make the tank mode, they are hard to get into position.
Underlord
I thought that last shot was going to be ger walk mode
Brawl and swindle were the only combaticons I had as a kid, so I've got a soft spot for em

Combiner Wars Brawl Arm Cannon – you have to attach the foot / fist in weapon form to the wrist to get any real poses out of it. The "heel" tends to get in the way of the elbow when it is held in the hand. The gun from the turret also fits on the arm, and I expect the drill version of the mold will make more use of that function.
