MP21G G2 Bumblebee is out in the wild and hitting collector’s shelves. He’s a straight repaint of MP-21 Bumblebee, this time with a metallic gold paint scheme to homage his G2 deco. He comes with the additional toy-themed battle mask that was exclusive before and a trusty jet pack accessory. The Autobot logo is not molded into the chest plate anymore, and stickers are available to mark him up with standard or G2 Autobot symbols. We’ve done up over 45 high res shots of him in action after the break, check them out courtesy of site sponsor TFSource! He’s in stock and shipping, hit them up if you need some G2 Bee in your life!
Key shot here, full set down below. Make sure to let us know what you think on the forums!

A Gold Bug, but not Goldbug.

Years ago (about 10 actually!) I bought a die-cast New Beetle to make my own "Binaltech" Bumblebee. At that time I could not find a yellow one so got a pale green one. It's still sitting in it's box, untouched!
Now I'm settled, house wise, I may have a crack at it. I'm sure it's much easier to find a yellow New Beetle now. Or even a new New Beetle!
I'd take a Bug Bite any day as the original seems hard to find in good condition. I have a few original GoBots but never got that one, sadly.
And a gold chrome G2 'Bee is pretty much a no-brainer for either Takara or Hasbro to do; it's just a money maker!

Ha ha, dammit, I must have typed that before my morning coffee.

This statement sounds all types of creepy but would make quite an interesting display

Thanks! I used Tamiya Flat Yellow mixed with Tamiya Orange. I used 2000 grade sandpaper and a some very diluted isopropyl to remove the gold paint from the crest first (covering the rest of the face in blue-tack to prevent the paint going over, a nice tip from RedTruck/Bumble/Sam). I ended up putting a bit of Tamiya clear over the top a few days later, too, but that made no difference to the appearance, I was just worried about it rubbing off. I made the mistake of painting too much of the sides of the crest, though, so it was really difficult to put the face back on and get off again. You can get a perfect match mixing the Tamiya yellow and orange, though. (Oh, and the Tamiya Sky blue is a decent match for touching up the eyes, as well.)

I much prefer the silver face too – out of interest what paint did you use for the crest, as I'd like to match mine like that too. Great job mate.

I got mine yesterday . It's funny , a few years ago there was a zero chance of A licensed VW , now , I have 2 !

Truly He is a Gold Bug.

I agree completely Exinferis, I love VW Beetles old or new. I'd like to see a GoldBug from this mold if no new sculpt is planned. I'd also want a pale yellow or black & white BugBite with a new "evil" head-sculpt, and a metallic blue Glyph with feminized face, arms, & thighs like RoadRage. Why not do a G2 gold chrome even as an exclusive?
A new beetle would have suited me just fine, but I enjoy them both.

Nice photos. I put the G2 symbol on his chest. I think he looks too plain without it and I'm a guy that almost never puts stickers on his Transformers.

I passed on the original release because of the orange color and the goofy looking face sculpt but I wanted to experience the mold so I grabbed this guy. Very glad that I did! I love this little dude. I'm keeping the battle mask on him since I still don't really care for the face sculpt although it does admittedly look better in silver. To my eyes the paint color looks more mustard than gold though, but maybe that's just me. The alt mode is ridiculously small next to the other MP carbots but robot mode scale is what I care about, so its no biggie to me.

As a fan of the VW Beetle (due in no small part to Bumblebee and Herbie) I'll take whatever Takara throw at me. Re-use this mould as much as you like T, at least one of us will keep buying!
Mine's been on it's way from AmiAmi for a week now. The suspenders are killing me!

That would be even better of course. But I think they could at least get a passable Goldbug out of a simple repaint with a new face plate, too, personally. But yeah, a full retool would be better.
Tony_Bacala
Agreed to do Goldbug super proper you'd need a new mold. But, to just get another cheap repaint out, if they did that, I'd accept it understanding that a remolded Goldbug isn't worth the money.

Beautiful photos! I especially like the one of G2 'Bee looking distraught because G1 'Bee has taken his jetpack (although fair enough, because it should really be G1 BB's so he can head off and check out Dinobot Island).
I don't mind the orangey colour of MP-21 because, as Tony points out, it's in keeping with his movie appearance. I wouldn't say no to a brighter yellow version if they ever do one, though.
I much prefer the face in silver, too (even though the eyes look a bit ropey on the one in the pictures) – to the extent that I painted the crest of mine orange/yellow and gave the G2 face to MP-21:
As for Cliffjumper, he does need a whole new mould. I would love it if they were able to reuse the legs, shoulders, midriff and hands from MP-21 for Cliffjumper (seeing as those are the parts they shared), and give him the same proportions. I always loved how Cliffjumper and Bumblebee loved next to each other (both in the cartoon and the G1 toys) and would love to replicate that in my MP collection…
Goldbug had quite a few differences from Bumblebee, too – both wheels on the feet (although they could do that by moulding details on the black flap that flips down inside the wheel arch), a different pelvis, different biceps and that backpack that comes up over his head. (EDIT: ninja'd on that by Newholl.)

It would need to be retooled as well:
Tony_Bacala
Yeah, MP21 is more movie bee color. But I do like it.
This is more Goldbug color, but missing the other things that make him Goldbug. Hasbro has a lot of potential to fix things if they release it here.
Lighter yellow bee, Goldbug with new head and blue, Vac Metal chrome Bee for G2. That would be ideal.
