Woah, what’s going on here? Yes, we’ve finally begun upgrading TFW2005! This has been a long process and Phase 1 is finally here. We will be continuing to upgrade and tweak out the site over the next 6 months, but for now we have a new look & new tech for News, Resources, and Comics. These new back end systems will allow us to upgrade the forum a bit easier down the road, and present our content in a more exciting way. The boards have been laid out a bit different, but is still using the same tech as before.
Some changes to the Resources system also went down, we’ve converted it to a “toys only” system, documenting all the releases from G1 through now. That is also just in Phase 1, we wanted to get it up and running but basically it’s the same as before. Over time, we’ll be adding in new technology for searching, new data, and additional layout tweaks. Same goes for Comics – same info, slightly different layout, more to come.
One other note – the front page, toy section and comic section are now mobile friendly. You should be able to view these areas on your phone or tablet’s browser much easier than before. The board is a bit more friendly for small screens, but not completely. We’ll tackle that in Phase 2 :).
So for now, just take in the new style and head on over to the boards to let us know what you think. If you see any problems feel free to let us know in the discussion thread. Big thanks to all the TFW2005 staff who dealt with me getting this thing live like a crazy person over the last couple months. And thanks to you all who visit and support the site, we hope to continue being the best we can be so we all have a kick ass place to enjoy our hobby. It is ALWAYS the year 2005!

Is this site now more compatable with mobile? Cause I have no issues with it right now. And it looks like it is from what I've seen.

When reading a news post, the "Ending Now on eBay" section is displayed between the news and the discussion posts, making it confusingly appear to be a set of images attached to the thread itself (and if the thread does have images attached, the eBay listings show up first). Can this be returned to the sidebar?

Could you guys add the little "Recently posted in the Transformers Movie Boards" window that used to be there on the right of the page? It was really handy since I could see new threads without having to actually go into the page itself.

Regarding the missing MP3 media…
Are there any plans to put the MP3 media back in the resources with the individual toy information or will it be a separate entity altogether? My apologies if I have missed this information about the update somewhere else when I went looking for it.
The only thing I had found stated it was going to be "toys only" but that new things would be coming later on.

Why is the new trend to make stupid shit ads and banners longer than the actual forum/ page section so if you scroll down all you get is a shitty ad banner on the right side of the page??
That is damned annoying and spreading like a plague.

Hi guys, really enjoying the new look and think the boards are looking great.
A quick question, which may be unrelated to the update, although I never noticed it before and found it's happening more and more. When I'm done reading and replying to a thread, I find that when I go back to the forum, that thread is still marked as unread and highlighted in bold. However, if I click the icon on the left to go to the last unread post, it then takes me to my own post that I have just made.
As I say, it's started to happen quite a bit, and it can be annoying as I'm never sure if I've missed a post when replying or not.
Any thoughts? Appreciate the help.

smileys are working great now tony. thanks

I think i'm starting to get used to this even with the big ass sidebar.

That seems to be a Dolphin specific situation, that's not intended or implemented on our end at all, on any platform. Looks like Dolphin is choosing to alter how our search forms work.
As for the dropdown situation – will look into alternative options or layouts for it, have heard a couple people mention it.

Not a fan of the mobile layout. You have too many subforums and categories as it is. Putting them in one big list, all written in the same way, is a pain. I just go to boards and peruse the normal TFW site.
Plus, boards should be the top option. it shouldn't be buried in a list.
And this is a general complaint from before the change that hasn't been fixed. On the mobile dolphin browser and others (I use dolphin) clicking 'search forum' leads to a regular Google search. It goes straight to a normal search. Whereas if I hit 'advanced search' I can search with the site, like you're supposed to.

I want to know how to get rid of the sidebar too, it is annoying and does not need to be that big.

OK, since this isn't really news anymore, it's not Transformers related specifically, and we may go on for a while tweaking things, moved this to General Discussion. Redirect left in news tho.
RE: Similies – I have a working, but not pretty, fix in place from what I can tell.
On just the new thread and new reply pages – I have forced them to render in IE7 mode. The sidebar and some other things may be misaligned for now, but it's functional as a page, and smilies work as they do everywhere else.
This is from my testing on IE9, Win 7. Your issues with similes not working was showing for me there too, and when I applied this, it worked for me there.
For anyone on IE 8/9/10/11, any windows version, feel free to post a reply or start a new thread, test the similie box, and let me know.

The sidebar icons do go to single file if your monitor is below 1440 pixels wide. And they wrap to the bottom if your monitor is below 1100 pixels wide.
They only show double wide for monitors/windows 1441 pixels and up.
Try resizing your browser window from full size, then drag it inwards, you'll see the transformation as you get smaller.
That single file column step was put in place in response to feedback here, when we launched it did not do that.
When we upgrade the forums later in the year, there will be additional things in place to maximize main text/image area when the screens get smaller.

I think he has already made it clear the side bar isn't going anywhere. its part of phase two of the upgrades.

If I may suggest a compromise:
Enlarge the sponsor icons on the right side of the screen but make them single file. This will still allow the post frames to be wide enough to be readable. Either remove the eBay box, or if they're a sponsor, do the same with the sponsor icons on the top of the screen and make them single file. (May require dropping the quantity from six to four.)

Will continue to research.

Similar issue here.
Though because the way IE on the Xbox 360 works, clicking the "see all smileys" option brings me to a whole new page, which then keeps it from adding anything to the post.
That said, the new page allows me to see how the smileys are typed out, so this ultimately works for me

Adblock Plus. It leaves a void of darkness and the forum doesn't stretch to cover it, though.
flik68
ok I tried it but it isn't adding the smiley to the post when I click on it from the popup box. tried it three times and it never did work.
