Transformers Prime may have ended and yielded the torch to Robots in Disguise, but Shout! Factory is keeping the fire alive with a new compilation DVD called Ultimate Decepticons. Ultimate Decepticons is coming in September 2015 in the US and Canada priced at $9.99, and it features five episodes drawn from across all three seasons of Transformers Prime. Those five episodes are, Masters And Students, Con Job, Crossfire, Prey, and Thirst. Also check out the cover art, which features the one and only Megatron, attached to this post.

I bought all of this on dvd, so these random episode dvd sets have none of my interest (same goes for MLP). I'd rather they spend their time/resources on getting things not available on dvd like RID 2001, BW2, BW Neo, etc.
From an economics standpoint i can see why they do this. It's a lot cheaper to make a new dvd of material they already have the files of than get something new.

Eh. Crossfire and Thirst make my top ten of Prime episodes.

Awesome, you get 5 shitty episodes from a show that's a year or two old.

DVD? How quaint.

Like what's the point of this when you could just buy the whole show on DVD/Blu-Ray? I personally feel its not worth it.

I forgot how much I loved this show. My 4 year old daughter and my 7 year old son…and I watched season 1 this past weekend and we were watching those episodes like we've never seen them. Then of course they wanted to play with the prime toys.

I'm pretty sure it's aimed at families, not the ones who buy whole seasons – the price point makes it like the VHS tapes with 3-4 episodes or a story arc I used to have as a kid. I'm no expert but I'm guessing there's a whole market for reasonably priced "selection" DVDs. (Thank you Nerdicon for illustrating my point while I was typing this!)
And yes, I still care about Prime the same way I still care about Cybertron, Animated, Beast Machines and the rest. And I would put forward that this will sell lots more than any Japanese Beast Wars set will. As much as I want to see the Beast Wars sets, they're a niche within a niche. Probably not profitable at all, sadly.

Some of the better episodes there. I may snag it for the kiddos.

Does anyone even care about PRIME any more?
Chopperface
Unexpected, for sure.

There is also the possibility that they want "remind" people that Transformers Prime still exists. I mean, I doubt this is the reason but this is probably for those who have forgotten about Transformers Prime, but hunger for a good cartoon rather than having to watch the hideous one they're trying to pass off as one- Robots in Disguise 2015

Making money.

Why? This just seems like a waste of resources? You can easily buy all the seasons still, and depending on how resourceful you are, even probably altogether cheaper than a brand-new set might cost on DVD/Blu-Ray. I'd rather see the money go to something else, like getting the rights to BWII and BWNeo, along with the cost of subtitling…
