Admittedly, I see both sides of the issue.
On his end, he's entitled to his opinion (whether right or wrong), he's allowed to respond when attacked.
On the fandom's end, we're also entitled to our opinion (whether right or wrong), we're allowed to respond when attacked. However, we crossed the line when fans wished him dead and made comments about his battle with Cancer, etc.
Neither side was right, but we crossed the line more than he did. It could be said that his actions might've been a result of the toll the Cancer had taken on him. Or, it's entirely possible he was just an asshole lashing out, which has been seen before, with how he made horrible comments about Ryan Dunn shortly after his death after Jackass 3 hit theaters. (Well, it was around that time, I should say.)
Either way, it all sucks.
BeeOtch217
1. I stand corrected. I'm sorry.
2. Yeah but there is still the fact that he lashed out like that. What he said specifically about the "Evolutionary Ladder" saying that those who enjoyed the movie are "not sufficiently evolved" and him insulting their intelligence, literally, is completely out of line. He, being a professional, should respect anyone preference in film, no matter what they like. To say what he said just makes him lose his credibility and shows that he takes cinema far too seriously then he should. It was inevitable that he would get much justified negative backlash for an extremely negative and offensive prejudice he made to people who just disagreed with him on a stupid movie. Don't tell me you actually sympathize with him.

Nope. Not confused at all. Here you go: Roger Ebert Schools The Transformers 2 Fans – CinemaBlend.com There are other links if you Google for them, but this one works.
Thank you.

pretty much
epect me, i have been able to survive 2 years (2012-2013) without any kind of Transformers to see (keep in mind i dont watch the cartoons and i have no intentions to do so), so if i was able to survive 2 years without any kind of Transformers footage, i can survive just 3 more days without any footage (or more if the trailer is delayed or not released at all )

Imma need this in HD plz! I cant wait for the screen caps.

I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about G1 (or any Transformers series of old) extremists that give him death threats and do other worse things on sites like YouTube because they don't like his vision on the franchise that they worship accusing him of ruining their childhood. Ther are barely any here because if they ever pulled a stunt like some fans have on other sites then they would be kicked off this site immediately. Fortunately not every fan is like that.
and not only Michael Bay as there are fan who give Hasbro (or "Hasblo") death threats and other things like wishing them bankruptcy because they're throwing a hissy fit over not getting a children's toy (that is a toy made primarily for kids) that they are entitled to have more then Hasbro's young target audience when that toy gets moved or canceled to make way for more toys that can enrich a young child's life. And THX acts like this is exclusive to the movie fans!
ChaosDonkey
People who grew up with G1, shouldn't they be something like +35 now?. And if Bay raped there childhood, shouldn't they speak to the local Jungian analyst instead of vomiting there discontent about Bay on forums? Im 36 i love g1, but as much as i hate Bayformers, i find them also amusing and fun.
And yes Bay is a movie director i like to watch when i want to switch off.
BeeOtch217
But the people you're describing who attacked Bay's apartment and computer attacked because they *HATED* what he did to Transformers in the movies like his "ugly designs" and putting the flames on Optimus Prime because those things "Raped their childhood". The people in tis thread *LIKE* (or at least appreciate) how Michael Bay is handling Transformers. So they would (and should) have no reason to attack Bay.
And I would appreciate it if you link a source of that Roger Ebert incident because I've never heard anything about that. I highly doubt a professional critic like Ebert would start something by "attacking our intelligence" and if he did then he is the extremely rude one for casting negative judgment and stereotypes on people who like a movie he hates. I think you're confused with Dark Knight Rises and the fans who gave all the critics death threats If they so much as gave the movie a negative review.

O Primus
Well.
I gonna see it anyway

If you mean "whipping", then yes.

I liked it.
LOL, you're the one showing off how long he's been a part of the fandom. I've been a fan since '84 and I've watched all the message boards fall apart from people going insane over these movies. All the boards/sites reported on people threatening Bay, making insane comments involving rape, and yes people did steal his laptop (which contained a script) and they even broke into his apartment. Even if it's not happening now, it happened in the past. All of that, plus this thread? Embarrassing. And I can judge you anytime I want. Doesn't mean people agree with me, but I can still judge.
Frustration is fine. Voicing frustration is fine. (Well, within reason. Respect can still be given while voicing said frustration.) People getting pissed and going after Nelson? After everything in the past? No. Not cool. You can blame Hasbro's PR department for dropping the ball and advertising something that wasn't meant to be, but Nelson's a real person. He's not a faceless corporation that couldn't care less what people think. I realize people apologized for their behavior, but it shouldn't have happened to begin with. This is a movie about toys. TOYS. Shitting all over people isn't necessary.
I can understand being upset about being mislead. I really do get it. It's how the anger is articulated. It's also how people are willing to take off from school and work (I believe someone mentioned work, I could be wrong) to see this trailer. That goes beyond being a fan, that goes into scary territory.
King of judgment. LOL Really? LOL K. It really is embarrassing for people to act the way they have been over these movies. The things people have said, the things people have done, all over a movie about toys, based on a show they grew up with. Repeat that, out loud. Let that really sink in. Someday, you'll get it.
Little knowledge of the community… lol I've been in the fandom a long time. A long, long time. Grew up with the whole thing since '84. 30 years, man. You make it clear that you're the one who hasn't been around for long and you just leap to conclusions and assume shit.
But the fandom HAS done so. (lol, your ignorance and proclaiming to know it all) And yeah, I do criticize people for taking off of work and school for a movie trailer. 2.5 minutes of a film's preview is worth taking an entire day's worth off? Really? Deep down, you know it's crazy. Just don't want to admit it. Trolled, really? How about it was a communication error? How about "shit happens"? It automatically has to be the worst case scenario, right? *smh*
Didn't slash anyone. Did call y'all embarrassing, sure did. Twisted no one's words, told nothing but the truth. And I do know what we've dealt with as fans for the past few months. Hell, the past few decades! If anyone's twisting things and being truly judgmental, it's you.
Oh and touché?
Yes, my point was good and clever and it's not my fault that it ended up being at your expense. And "jerk"? Eh, I've heard far worse. lol
Thank you.
Oh, don't give the people in the fandom credit. It could definitely be someone here, they just won't come forward and admit it. Another good example of the fandom being ridiculous? Going after Roger Ebert during Revenge Of The Fallen. (Granted, he more or less started it when he attacked our intelligence for liking the movie, but still, our response was heavy handed and ridiculous.) And I know people from all the boards were pissed by that experience. You can't say it wasn't someone here, or any of the other message boards. It's definitely not impossible.
BeeOtch217
And that person was someone who obviously was disgusted at the movies. Which means there is an extremely low chance it's anyone here, among peope who admire these movies, flames or not, and are starving for new footage of a film we are anticipating.
Fuck me, FINALLY!

To be fair, he is correct. Someone threatened to kill Bay when they found out he put flames on Optimus during production for the first film.
