Transformers Armada Returning to DVD?

transformers-armada-dvd

Amazon has listed a new pre-order page for “Transformers Armada – The Complete Series”. As per TVShowsonDVD, the distributor is Gaiam Americas which also does distribution for Shout! Factory. Shout! is the company that does most of the current Transformers dvd/blu-ray releases now. If you missed out on Transformers Armada back when Rhino put them out last decade, this could be your chance to pick the series up minty fresh, if it pans out of course.

I searched and didn't see this on the news:

Transformers: Armada DVD news: Announcement for Transformers: Armada - The Complete Series | TVShowsOnDVD.com

From 2004 to 2006, Rhino Home Video put out all 52 episodes of Transformers: Armada on DVD, but those products have been off the market for quite some time. No studio has formally announced it yet, but today Amazon.com added an entry to pre-order Transformers: Armada - The Complete Series on DVD. This set is priced at $44.99 SRP (though you can buy it in advance at a discount), and according to Amazon the release date is March 11th. No other details are available there yet, nor box art, and this item hasn't been formally announced by the studio as of this writing.

"Which studio?," you ask? Amazon shows "Gaiam Americas" as the entity behind this item, but we note that since they acquired Vivendi Entertainment in 2012, Gaiam not only distributes their own DVD (and Blu-ray) products to retailers, but also provides distribution services for Shout! Factory, Mill Creek Entertainment, The Jim Henson Company, Dreamworks Classics/Classic Media/Hallmark/Genius Products/Big Idea/Entertainment Rights, and MANY others. But at this time we can guess all we like, but we're not 100% certain of which studio is putting it out. Stay tuned for more info, of course, as further developments occur!

It's probably Shout! Factory, given last I recall they got the rights.

Shout!Factory often farms out lesser titles to smaller distributors. (i.e. much of their DiC library they gave to Cookie Jar/DHX) So while I have no doubrt they are the source, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a budget release from Gaiam. I haven't watched Armada in so long... I cant even recall if the Rhino sets I have included any extras or not heh... Well I guess its nice for people who missed out a decade or so ago, or were too young to remember. Now they can experience the awfulness of Armada for themselves. I'm guessing by the price point a Micron Densetsu track w/subs wont be included? No reason for me to purchase then. However its a nice second chance for any completists out there that missed it the first time.

Finally someone who understands that there is no such thing as the Unicron Trilogy. Armada and Energon were the only series that were connected. Cybertron was not.
