Michael Bay‘s Official Website always keeps a healthy relationship with the Transformers Fandom. Nelson; the Site Admin of Shoot For The Edit shed some new info on the Robots of Transformers: Age Of Extinction, moments ago:
“I like how Bumblebee looks like in robot form this time around. He looks badass and sleek. The Stingray is one of my favorite looking robots.
So is the Bugatti. Wait til you see this guy in action. He will blow your mind!!
And Hound reminds me of the bearded chubby fellow in Braveheart. He might take the cake when it comes to personality.”
With it, we now have a good idea as to who the ”Pole-face” Bearded Robot is.

It's Brains in disguise!

Is it just me or does that look more like Hound is "chewing" on a wrench than smoking a cigar?
Lurkertron
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and I reckon that makes two of us.
The point was that Hound looks like a joke and I never mentioned G1 or any other stream when saying so. Even in all the myriad ways these movies have sucked, some of the designs gave been great and I've said so.
But Einstein and Bluto… Not so much.
There's nothing else to say. That's my opinion and you can have a butthurt party all you like. I give as many fucks as I do for Bayformers 4ever: Age of Beards.
Peace!

This news does not make me excited to see what the new bots will look like. The movie versions of TF characters have dissapointed me for the last 3 films.

I think the problem is that yes, robots with beards existed in the old cartoons – I didn't like it at the time tbh but grew to accept it as artistic liscence to say 'this robot is supposed to be old'.
But I think we expected the live action films to have more realism and ignore the bits that were silly. I mean, I don't expect the characters from Carnage in C-minor to be used in the films. I accept that this happened in the old cartoons but just because it did it has no place in a live action film.
It's like using batmite in the Nolan Batman films and when people complain about it just saying: "well he was there in the cartoons!"
Sso02V
'kay. We also had bearded 'bots in Beast Wars, Energon, Cybertron, TFA, Shattered Glass, Prime…
That enough equality for ya?
Bumblebee1516
Well, Optimus did say in the beginning of ROTF that the human species was much like their own.. I suppose it is up to us to decide how much they are alike..
Sideways77
Yeah. I mean, the G1 cartoon had way more WORSE offenses than the movies. I mean, random colored dudes that never existed, characters that just stare into space and don't do anything, and random plots.
The clones in the movies can be explained. They're jut dudes who share the same model. Characters that don't talk at least DO something. (Jolt saved the world, for cripe's sake), and each movie had a plot to follow. Movie 1 was Megatron needing the AllSpark, ROTF (as poor as it was) had The Fallen wanting to activate the sun harvester, and DOTM was transporting Cybertron.
Are they suppose to look human? The G1 designs are boring and generic as can be. The movie designs are unique and different. Like, compare G1 Ironhide to DoTM Crankcase.
Ironhide is a block on another block with a windshield and a head on top. Crankcase has piercings, dreadlocks made of bullets, and pincers on his back. I prefer the unique design.

There we go the Elitist Battle cry " every one who likes what i don't like is stupid." Just cause you wan't to nitpick to death doesn't make your argument's valid
But they Don't Look human, Even when they have beards, The movie Transformers Very Rarley look human out side of some human shapes, JEtfire had a beared but he also looked like a bird.
my point was is that G1 the transformers all looked incredibly human, to say that the movies are worse on this front is assinine.
Lurkertron
People who complain about people complaining about Bayformers mention G1 more than anybody else. Also, the most self important bores imaginable. As long as they are content with substandard mindless dross, everybody else should be too.
neevnav
People who complain about Bayformers on the forums pick and choose what parts of G1 they want to remember.
Ephland
This. Most of the pissed off people on these forums have complaints that don't make a ton of sense.
thien425
By negative racial stereotypes you mean teenagers right? Because that's what they sounded like to me.
Lurkertron
Re Alpha Trion. I was thinking of the comics more than the cartoon. Which wasn't particularly great either but still way better than Bayformers.
And so, if Alpha Trion's design in the cartoons was rubbish, Bay should keep coming up with human looking transformers? What?
Anyway, for Alpha Trion see movie Sentinel and for once they absolutely nailed that design.f
Lurkertron
Please God, at least say Stinkin Park isn't back for this one.
gawddammit
And a human nose.
Hound89
Are you kidding?
Alpha trion not only had facial hair (quite Wavy facial hair at that)
But he had Facial Hair that GREW
What the hell ever

I think Kup with a cigar is just as cliche and stupid as Hound with a pipe.
I think the point is that we are seeing typical human cliche after human cliche, combined with a stark lack of style. Alpha Trion, Unicron, Scourge – they had robot style my friends.
Lurkertron
There is no comparison. A few stylized triangular pieces of plate metal on a robots face is not the same as, essentially, a metal Einstein, Santa Claus…etc.
Alpha Trion never looked Human.
For the record, I had no problem with Jetfires design. His beard was merely suggestive. And I don't care about old man hound smoking a pipe. That's not the issue. The issue is humanizing these alien robots and making them 'silly'. I saw the headshot of Hound and burst out laughing rather than think it was cool. That's not right. But it is Bayformers, which is wiping its ass on Transformers.
Livingdeaddan
In fairness, Kup smoking a cigar looked cool. This polehead… whats the opposite to cool?
Anyway, it might all make sense when we see it moving and conversing. It did for Jetfire… and almost for Que. So ill reserve judgment.
