Transformers 4 is filming in Detroit today at the set that was designed to double up as Hong Kong, and by all accounts, the action being filmed is a positively explosive action / fight scene involving Mark Wahlberg and others running out of a restaurant and sheltering behind Autobot Hound in vehicle mode. Lots of pictures of the filming have been posted, both from people observing the set and from news outlets including Michigan Movies and More and The Detroit Free Press, the latter of whom also has a report about what is going on today on set.
There are also some videos showing the action being filmed on set, of which this one by PishPosh.tv on Vimeo shows the lead up to the explosions (and Autobot Hound!) while this one from MLive shows a better view on the explosions which are in typical Michael Bay fashion.

Man Detroit has really started to clean up! Looking good Michigan!

That set more looks like some random city in mainland China, I never saw people riding bicycle like that for commute or Coca Cola truck with Chinese trademark in Hong Kong….
Taxi and Tram are OK, close enough.

Looks like Detroit is turned into Shanghai for the filming – note the chinese advertisement on the truck or the streets.
I find it hilarious how the supposedly all-american Bay who is best friends with the US Army now dropped the pretending and makes this movie half for the Chinese audiences. What can you say, money talks, Hollywood listens – patriotism comes second to the expected gross. Soon movies will be made for China explicitly…

Did they see Robocop yet?

I'm not positive how true this is. But it comes from a person with a roll in the film here in Detroit. But Nemesis Prime is (supposedly) the baddie this time. Misdirection or not, it coooould be cool. Could suck butt too.

"Typical Bay Fashion" How Novel.
"Typical Bay Fashion" "Typical Bay Fashion" "Typical Bay Fashion", how novel of you to ALWAYS repeat this. When will people get tired of stating the obvious, if you don't support Bay doing the films, don't see them.

Bumblebee: Hound! you can't just drive around like that, you're an army vehicle.
Hound: So?
Bumblebee: You can't just drive in the middle of the fragging road, you give off too much attention.
Hound: I am?
Commence explosions
Hound: Ohhh
Bumblebee: What did I just say?!

Justin Verlander was trying to deliver some heat during this afternoon’s Detroit Tigers game, but the other hot show near Comerica Park was filming on “Transformers 4.”
Pedestrians swarmed around the huge outdoor set near Grand Circus Park, where smartphones snapped away as fans watched scenes of some Hong Kong-set mayhem unfold as the Motor City doubled for the Asian metropolis.
“There’s a bunch of explosions and Mark Wahlberg keeps running through. It’s sweet,” said Allie Steinbach, 16, of Clawson, who was observing the action.
Michelle Howard of Detroit got to see the shooting of two staged explosions.
“We saw a fight scene. They were running out of a restaurant,” said Howard. “They tell you to keep moving, but you can take a picture on the side.”
A team of production assistants was stationed on the perimeters of the sprawling set, which is located along Clifford, Washington Boulevard, Bagley and beyond. They helped direct the foot traffic, which was heavier than usual because of the lure of the filming and the Tigers game.
From the barricades, passersby could get a good glimpse of the action and the eye-catching set decor, including a large Victoria’s Secret billboard with Chinese writing on it.
The latest in the popular “Transformers” franchise from director Michael Bay has been shooting at locations throughout Michigan. Filming is expected to continue at the Detroit location into next week.
