There have been rumblings of various Transformers 4 filming locations of late, but now a location has come forward, confirmed. Chicago, according to Chicago Reel, is going to be a filming location – and according to their information, based on projected film dates of July to October and Transformers 4 star Mark Wahlberg looking for a four month house rental, we could be looking at Chicago being the main filming location for Transformers 4. With Transformers 4 being set 4 years after Dark of the Moon devastated the city with a full-on Decepticon invasion and plenty of Michael Bay’s trademark Bayhem, is the city ready for a second helping?

Bay always has something up his sleeve or else he will not be called Micheal Bay for nothing. I still do not wish to see him direct TF movies anymore.
Golden Age
millions of dollars in visual diarrhea.
megatron prime1
looks like Chicago uninhabeted prrty soon XD

I could see the government pulling a stupid stunt like that. Heck, they've been making some bad move in every movie, why not this one.

I'm just saying in the continuity of the movies the only Decepticon tech left on Earth is the crashed spaceships – which have likely been reversed engineered to help the N.E.S.T. team and give the humans better weapons.
Granted it could work if they had a base under Chicago where they kept Sentinel's body and somehow Megatron's head was brought back to life and attached itself onto Sentinel's corpse… but honestly I think the Chicago stuff will just be for flashbacks.
Plus, I only meant the Decepticons in the battle and on Cybertron are dead. I know there will probably be other factions of Decepticons who survived – personally hoping for Tarn and the Decepticon Justice Division – especially after the brutal murder of Megatron.

No, well not to my knowledge anyways nothing planned for FL at this time
Rumblestorm
omfg fuck yes!!!!

That's why it's called a twist. You don't see it coming.
And what makes you think there aren't any more Decepticons? Let's say for the sake of arguement that all Decepticons on Earth were killed. And due to the fact Cybertron appeared to have been destroyed when the space bridge collapsed, there aren't any there. But that doesn't mean there aren't any left. Space is HUGE!

Do you think there's any chance there will be filming in Florida?
TheLastPrime
It will also be filming in Houston and Detroit
AutobotJazz4
Isn't it obvious?? They need to rebuild the city, just like after the G1 Episode "Megatron's Masterplan"… "Countdown to extinction".

I was planning on going to Illinois last summer and at the last second it didn't happen. So now I might end up going this summer so this is definitely some great news for me

I have a good chance of being able to go to Chicago in August. I hope I can and will be able to see some cool explosions.

I gotta try to see them filming. I thought at first they'd be filming some chicago in repair scene since this is after DOTM, but July-October is a long time for that. Bring it Bay, we're ready.
Scorpio
Pretty much this. Also bringing up the Pyramid example to note that the Autobots rebuilt it in a week I believe…

One thing to keep in mind is that just because filming takes place at a certain location doesn't mean that it representing that same location in the film. A good example from DOTM is the scenes in Russia. Those were filmed in Gary, IN, (just outside of Chicago, for those not familiar) near the area where my in-laws grew up.
From my understanding, Michael Bay built quite a rapport with both the cities of Chicago and Gary, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were giving Bay incentives and special access in order to attract him and other filmmakers to the area. I would expect Chicago to make an appearance just for the name drop, but I expect that many of the scenes filmed there won't actually be taking place in Chicago in the movie.

Thankfully the fictional universe of Transformers doesn't have to worry about that. Because Chicago wasn't destroyed in DOTM. Chicago is an incredibly large city (3rd largest in the US), and in DOTM the final battle took place in a relatively small area of the city. The metropolitan area, where the attack in DOTM took place, also was not destroyed. It had many locations of severe damage, but the infrastructure as a whole was very much intact at the end of DOTM.
It's like saying "the pyramids were destroyed in ROTF." No, they weren't. One pyramid suffered a lot of damage at the top. The base of the structure remained, as did the bottom 80%.
Bumblethumper
Sounds like a very long shoot.
I half suspect they might be shooting 2 films back to back.

Any Decepticons in Dark of the Moon are dead and gone – we wont have a Decepticon wake up in Chicago – four years after the battle.
I knew someone would bring that up – honestly I hoped we wouldn't because that is honestly a stupid situation to reference. The World Trade Center 'rebuild' is taking longer for a multitude of reasons with barely any actually being construction related – the first being the fact that after the attacks they promised to build a memorial park on the site. The second being that due to the events that took place at the World Trade Center they wanted to rebuild it stronger and more impressive looking. Thirdly, the plans for the rebuild were stated in 2006 as taking at least 6 years. Lets not forget the recession/depression meaning production of a sky scraper that costs them 3.8 billion are likely to slow a little. The rebuilt design is also the largest freaking building in the city – while in DOTM we are talking about simple sky scrapers – this building is about 1/3 higher.
Put simply; this is a large scale building which was taken down outside of a war time zone – the buildings in Chicago had been evacuated and with the high death toll it likely means they wouldn't count individual buildings being the location of memorial sites. Depending on the scale of the rebuild effort + Autobot help it would be easily done in a max of 6 years (Human construction time)

I would also like to note that the 'destruction' in Dark of the Moon was essentially just a few broken skyscrapers and some missiles which hit into some layers of apartment buildings. This damage is not that much, especially considering the most important fact – THEY HAVE AUTOBOT HELP. After the events of ROTF – the Pyramid was rebuilt in less than a week via the Autobots. Do you really think a couple of buildings is going to take a long time when you have a robot that can carry all the supplies there and deliver them to virtually anywhere they need to be instantly? Removing the need for cranes.

Maybe in a fictional universe like the movies four years is enough, but in real life, no.
If a city took as much damage as Chicago did in the movie, it would be a long process. Look at the World Trade Center in New York. That happened over 11 years ago, and they still aren't done rebuilding. And that was just one small section of Manhattan, imagine an entire city destroyed that much.
