Next up is the other new release from the next assortment of Transformers Fall of Cybertron Voyagers, Blaster (and his cassette turned data-disk companion Steeljaw)! Fall of Cybertron Blaster is one of the more extensive remolds that comes along every so often, featuring a new head, a new chest, a different gun and even new wheels which together with his brighter colors sets him apart from Soundwave / Soundblaster and gives him an identity all of his own. It’s just as well, because Blaster deserves to be more than a mere copy of Soundwave (sorry Universe 2.0). What is great though is Blaster really takes the mold and runs with it. While Soundwave being bigger than his fellow Decepticons was a nuisance, it is less of an issue for Blaster, because Blaster was always a big guy among the Autobots.
Blaster’s other blessing is that like a few Fall of Cybertron releases, he can work with the Classics series characters as a Classics version of Blaster, if you are so inclined. Your mileage will of course vary on how much the obviously Cybertronian look fits in with more Earthly alternate forms, but in robot mode he fits in nicely with characters like Perceptor.
There’s not a lot to say about Blaster’s diskbot partner Steeljaw. He’s a pretty extensively reworked version of Ravage, but I found on mine the strong springs meant he never quite stood as flat as I would have liked. Ravage of course had his good and bad points and these carry over to Steeljaw. Regardless though, it is good to see Steeljaw included with Blaster, because just like Soundwave needs Laserbeak, Blaster needs his little partner bot too.

Picked up Soundwave a few weeks ago with Ratbat/Frenzy and Rumble/Ravage
Sorely disappointed and I see myself def passing on Blaster.
The eject gimic is such weak sauce and simply doesn't work. The lack of a perch for Ratbat/Laserbeak takes alot from the figure as well.
Robot mode-pretty cool
Car mode-Blech!
Napalm
Great, great figure, but I hope Reprolabels come up with something to liven up his legs.
Other than that, awesome fun to be had with this one.

It sure look kind of cute in Boombox Mode

He'll be on my 'must have' list.
Thanks for all the nice shots of him.

The off-white plastic on his legs looks awful. This would have been much better:

i am so stoked for this. blaster looks great.
Angelwave
Not for nothing…but i actually prefer this mold for Blaster than Soundwave. He really looks good and that pseudo boombox mode is pretty nice. Hell I think you can actually find boomboxes that look like that.
Stepper
Sure giving them thumbs up for the great job done on Blaster's head sculpt.

Actually pretty sweet

Love the "boombox" alt mode. Nice work coming up with that.

Sol, your galleries continue to rock! You do such a wonderful job on 'em. I thoroughly enjoy them!
Blaster looks GREAT and I'm really excited about it!

I really don't get how you can hate on this figure. Soundwave and Blaster should be similar, much more then the G1 toys were. They were rivals, tape decks, and when stood side by side, Matched up much closer then what the G1 toys offered as a representation!! Like everyone else said, much has been retooled and the head and face are wonderful!
Amen brother! Are you in mass also? Here at my local Walmart, wave 1 deluxes are still shelf warming and I think it is that way at Target also. I am worried that we may not even get the new deluxes here, let alone the voyagers! I will probably end up ordering them online at some point.
I totally agree with this and I remember it bugging the hell outta me when I was a kid! Still does really, that is the beauty of classics! There were many flaws in the days of G1 such as lack of articulation, color, Head sculpts and basically everything inbetween! Classics fixes many of those in the updated representations we get now. When I was a kid I loved G1 and loved the toys but many of them upset me to the point where to this day I really don't want any of them but I gotta tell you I still love the cartoon and I absolutely love the Classics and Masterpiece lines!

Passing on 'Wave… BUT if someone can confirm whether Hibiki (Kamen rider) Disk animals fit in him, or someone makes duplicates the correct size with shapeway… I'll seriously consider getting Blaster… but still no to 'Wave, I have his WFC..

Looks good

I have all 3 versions. Sure Soundwave and Soundblaster are really close……but Blaster's head is GREAT! I have not messed with the chest launching thing much. Seems the disks are pretty tight and do not launch very well. The data disks would be better if they did not have the Autotransform thing. My Steeljaw has some tight springs making his back really arch more than it should. Ravage has less arch. The Laserbeak/Buzzsaw/Ratbat mold I do like except there should be something to let the clip or peg on an arm or shoulder. Overall nice tho!

I LOVE the fact that Blaster and Soundwave are repaints of each other.
In G1 – we had Blaster absolutely towering over almost every other figure. He was twice the size of his rival. It didn't look right in display and it didn't play right for kids.
Both are minibot/tape carriers with similar alt modes, so there are similarities. Both need to be in scale, as they were in the cartoon (rivals). The best way to make two figures with similar features and similar scale is through repaint/remolding (do keep in mind that this figure is remolded in several areas).
It was nice to see Cybertron Soundwave get a matching Blaster and it's great to see one of the best Soundwave updates get one as well. With the remolds, Blaster and Soundwave are much more different than their Cybertron/Universe versions.

Yeah yeah yeah… Soundwave & Blaster are unique bots that aren't and shouldn't be repaints of one another, but in THIS case where they're sportin' alien Cybertronian designs & alt modes, some creative allowance is more than acceptable. We all accepted it with Classics Sideswipe & Sunstreaker, Skullgrin & Darkmount, and Tracks & Wheeljack all suddenly sharing molds, so we can most certainly accept it here.

Like it, love it, ordered…
I seriously hope that someone makes an MP version of Blaster, boombox style. Basically a G-1 style but that is fully poseable.
Blasterpill
Just picked up Soundwave and now i have to get Blaster. No way I can pass up this.

Not our fault you bought the oversized Soundwave/Soundblaster.
Blaster is more than just a simple repaint
