Edge Online has posted an article looking at the upcoming Transformers Universe game by Jagex, the makers of Runescape. The article looks at the challenges of creating an MMOG based on Transformers. There’s some talk about the gameplay as well – namely how the game is taking more of an action based approach than your usual MMORPG like World of Warcraft. There’s discussion of the idea of how teamwork will function in the game as well as a description of a mission involving mining Energon near a dam, complete with Terrorcons showing up to attack both sides.

A WoW clone would be too much of a gamble. MOBA is growing by leaps and bounds right now. Smart business decision.

dont forget since you sound like to be a wowboi, WoW also did their share of copying games also, especially like for example EVERQUEST. And if it wasnt for the complete stupidity and QQing of the whiners that couldnt handle the work of precu SWG, SWG would be alive today and wouldnt have to bother saving SWTOR out of the shadows of the dark.

im worried, its gonna be browser based also
GAUGE
I'll play it, but i won't enjoy it too much.
I really hate PVP stuff.
and even if it's F2P you know the stuff you gotta pay for will always be the most powerful and in most cases Broken items.
Therefore PVP veterans will always win. and Hackers will always run a muck ticking people off.
I really don't think this game is going to do too well.
most newer MMO's don't last very long anymore.

Definitely not happy, but not ready to hate, either. I'll still give it a shot. What do I know, it could be okay.
I just don't think it'll be much fun if you're always getting shot at. I have no wish to live amongst chaos.

I for one am glad they are not just cloning WoW. I don't have anything against Wow, use to play it all the time. But then that's why I want to see them do something different.

To be fair Arena Net stocks have plummeted of late and the the Guild Wars 2 player base is declining to the point that they've had to add grind elements to the game to keep people interested, which is something the dev team said they would never do.
Torque
looks like it could be fun, will need to wait and see!

lol, you're calling those MMOs failures? If I were to make an MMO, I'd model exactly like WoW, and be happy with 1/100th of it's players and consider it a success. TF is a niche market, like it or not – you're already starting with a much smaller target audience..why experiment? I guess if f2P, longevity matters little – hence why people are dropping from gw2 interest like flies already. I'm a guy who played eq ONE beta, I've seen what keeps players around, and what has them waiting on the next game/expansion/
WoW had 10 million subscribers earlier this year

The game's heavily PVP based? Well that kills A LOT of my interest in it right there.

Looks good!

Why not like WoW? That's an easy one – every game that has tried to copy WoW has had hit and miss levels of success going down that route and players are leaving WoW in droves. Big names like LOTRO was a success for a while but SWTOR fell flat on it's face. Many newer MMO's are waking up to the idea that the old Everquest / WoW model is done. GuildWars 2 struck out in an interesting direction and Planetside 2 seems to be more refined competitive play. Both are highly polished f2p games – unthinkable 5 years ago.
I'm not sure if it's in the online article, but in the printed version Jagex stated that they wanted to get away from the level/gear treadmill of progression, which suits longer play sessions, in favour of burst sessions. This implies to me short'n'sweet pvp matches & missions.
I would like to see persistent battlegrounds and raid boss content, but somehow I doubt well get these.

I think I also read in the article that this is a continuity of FOC, which would void out the need/point of cybertron…still, I am sure there will be bases and tech type zones at least.

“Maybe there’s more in a selection of characters and abilities, and the strategy in that, than there is [in] levelling a character endlessly and going through fuck loads of boss battles.”
-Alex Horton
Nice ending. However, I'm worried about selecting characters. I thought it was class based and full character customization?
Sockie
They've already talked about possibly adding to alien worlds to the game eventually–I don't think it's a stretch that you'll be able to visit Cybertron in the game at some point.

WoW – most successful MMO of all time
TF – let's not make it like WoW
why?
Perhaps Cybertron will be an expansion, if the game succeeds
Purple Heart
Its starting to sound a bit more interesting.

While I think the move from MMO to MOBA is smart, I wonder about the timing. Prime is already changing, and I wonder how much longer it'll even be around.
Kaijumaster
I knew a TF MMO Was an inevitability, but I always assumed it would be on Cybertron……
