No Future Downloadable Content Planned for Transformers Fall of Cybertron

War_for_Cybertron

High Moon Studios, the creators behind the popular and successful Transformers Fall of Cybertron game stated in a Q&A Thursday that they are not planning any future downloadable content for Fall of Cybertron.

The statement is as quoted below:

Can you add more colors and characters?

Unfortunatly not. Each color, new character, or really anything that gets added puts demands on what the game can support technically. At this point with the largest roster of Tranformer characters ever and dozens of colors we have reached the limit. Sorry Sludge fans!

Will you be adding any DLC maps?

A number of our fans have expressed an interst in buying DLC maps, however we feel this will have a negative impact a player’s ability to quickly find a full match. This is a major learning we made from War For Cybertron. The addition of paid DLC maps splits the player community between those with the maps and those without.

This is obviously a huge disappointment for those who have been playing the game on a regular basis and enjoying it, but have started reaching the end-game limits. Many fans have questioned if games such as the Halo franchise can release map packs for over a year after the game is released, and Left 4 Dead 2 can continue to release new campaigns and multiplayer maps years after the game was released, why can’t High Moon Studios do the same with Transformers Fall of Cybertron?

What are your thoughts? Share them with our fellow Transformers gamers by discussing it on our forums!

Well, that's a real shame. I was hoping for a lot more support on this game instead of HMS blowing all their ON-DISC DLC in the first month of release.
There was lot of potential for more characters/maps/game modes/escalation but it's all gone now in favour of the new Deadpool game.

Apparently there will be no new maps because it will split the community and no more characters because the game has hit the limit, they can't even add more colours!
(Maybe they should of released actual DOWNLOADABLE content rather than stuffing it onto the disc.)

As much as I love this game in general and how much fun I had with it, it's gotten a bit stale. (And my copy being broken and Activision NEVER sending me my replacement dsic.)
It really saddens me to see this game dead already. :C

Surprising that the "quick, rush it out the door nobody really cares anyway" licensed Revenge of the Fallen game was able to come up with new content, and a way to keep the community from being split by DLC maps, but High Moon just can't wrap their heads around the concept.

But that would mean developing something that ISN'T locked on the disk already.

    Because that requires effort, silly!
High Moon seem allergic to that stuff.

Oh, right, how could I forget? I saw HMS try to make an effort once, they swelled up like a balloon.

Why bother using their time dipping back into an already released game when they can use it to start working on the next new one. Which they probably are already doing.

The problem is when you make a game and you promote the multiplayer aspect of it, gamers become loyal to you and they want to continue to play your game. However if you choose NOT to release any additional DLC for the game, you instead end up alienating your audience because the idea becomes, "Why should I pay $60 for a game that will get no support after release?"

Sure there's patches and balancing, but eventually people want to see a new map, a new character, something or anything to keep the game fresh and keep the multiplayer aspect of the game attractive both to current gamers and those that might pick it up used at a GameStop or rent it off GameFly.

It comes down to cost and profitability - High Moon Studios obviously feels it is more cost-efficient to stop all content development for Fall of Cybertron and instead have a bare-bones crew watch the balance aspect of it, while they begin their concept design on the next game. It more or less means that they feel they've made all the money they're going to make, and that any DLC they release isn't going to sell enough to warrant the time developing and designing it.
