One of the all-time greatest directors ever… Mr. Steven Spielberg receiving the Transformers Hall Of Fame Award at BotCon 2011 for the services he did to the Transformers franchise.
I think the first set of Hall of Fame inductees was very well chosen. I was disappointed to see Frank Welker, Simon Furman, and Floro Dery passed over this year.
Expect that Bay flat out stated that nobody tells him how to make a movie- including Spielberg.
So whatever "special touches" that were in the first film came from Bay- not Spielberg.
It's been a while since I read those articles, but I remember plenty of them saying that Spielberg was remarkably hands on for the first movie and was quite involved with the creative process especially.
Yes Erector would be good then it will be an ideal mikey take of the whole concept which has already been somewhat devalued by the inclusion of Humans and Soundwave revisionist nonsense bio.
I don't really understand what this Hall of Fame is for other than an ideal way of giving Hasbro detractors something to point and laugh at.
It leaves me puzzled by the whole concept I will admit. even more so when Speilburg's involvement in these Movies is relatively miniscule compared to say Don Murphy in regards to TF 2007. it's like saying Speilburg should be given all the credit (or blame) for Jurassic Park 3 when he also had 'not a lot' to do with that either.
I suppose it's all a bit of fun though if you look at such things with a sense of weary amusement as I often tend to do.
[EDIT]
Incidentally if I'm remembering correctly the aspects that Spielburg had involvement in in TF 2007 was encouraging Bay to leave the fat guy running through the French windows, the Bumblebee peeing and other Sector 7 silliness (thereby making them an organisation one can't take seriously) he offered his support to Bay in leaving them as they were written and he also supported Bay's ideas of Decepticons as mostly silent Monsters and was on his side when others argued the other Decepticons should have talked more he also was a fan of all the Sam's Parents and dog stuff too ( I think anyone can see all that stuff was very Typical of Spielburg movies like ET & JP).
The main scene I know he got involved in was the lake scene which he was very big on – but then perhaps he's just a fan of the 1960's Herbie Movie that the whole section is stolen from ? anyway Spielburg is basically someone who is partly on the same (low brow) level as Bay (as shown by Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) and if there's something that makes some of us cringe in these Movies I usually feel it's probably something Bay & Spielburg support strongly.
It's quite funny to read the criticisms of the Movies by Studio insiders and other Producers as for once they seem to be on the side of the Angels with lots of the comments made against these movies mirroring the criticisms one would read on any Internet board. and Ironically the critics (not the really stupid ones mind who say there's to much of the robots in the 2007 Movie) but some of them also offer the same comments too this offers a lot of support to those detractors I feel but it's also a positive thing as it suggests that there's is a Market for a less silly Transformers movie at some point in the future if the appropriate replacement director comes along. I think Iron Man proves a (comic book style) Movie can be fun but does not have to be stupid with it.
P.s. – It makes me think a lot less of The Nostalgia Critic / That Guy with Glasses that he actually likes these movie so much – when the points he makes about some many other movies are so thin compared to what you could say about Bay's Work. The example being Superman Movies Regardless what you might think of the logic errors they have they are marginally more sensible that ROTF overall. though they do leavethemselves open too I will admit that.
BTW – I looked but he does not seem to have any Star Wars reviews other than The Holiday Special. which I find puzzling – is it Cowardly to omit them ?
thanks for the video! but makes one wonder: what would happen if Spielberg would be the director and producer and Bay jst a consultant for the action scenes? ^^
Have to disagree heavily with that. The Spielberg touches in the first movie made it special, was exactly what it needed, and you could tell that he gave Michael Bay full creative in ROTF, instead of contributing himself.

Still, there must be something to the movies. I find myself watching them often when they turn up on cable. Maybe because they're the only game in town.
I think that the movies are different than any other franchise in that they aren't about Transformers. When I was a kid, I never wanted to see more of Spike & Sparkplug.
"While we were focused on telling the stories of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee… Steven Spielberg focused primarily on telling the human story."
Oh, so that's who ruined these movies.
actually the fist movie was PERFECT. it was mr. Bay's stupid toilet humor that trashed the second film. the movies aren't ruined, just different from any other tf franchise, as all the other tf franchises are somewhat 'different' from eachother.
I grew up watching Spielberg movies. So many great ones. But I wanted a Transformers movie about the robots, not the people. Too many great Transformers characters to reduce most of them to set pieces.

It's because of Steven Spielberg that I got into movies. I wish it was my job to work in Hollywood making movies. I was in 3rd grade when Jurassic Park came out and I've been hooked on films ever since.

If it's unflattering, then I'd have to agree.

Nicely done Mr Spielberg. Does that mean we can expect to see more videos from the HOF event soon?

My opinion about Spielberg's work in this movie is the same that last "Indiana Jones" movie.

This is now a bookmarked page on my computer. I'm a MAJOR Steven Spielberg fan so I'm incredibly happy to see this! Thumbs up to Spielberg!
