As promised, Botcon organizers are sharing convention news via their Twitter account, giving us the big reveal of Animated Minerva as the Customization Class exclusive! Minerva was a character from the Generation One Japanese series Masterforce and commands big bucks on the vintage market. And now a lucky few Botcon attendees will create their very own update in the Animated line!
Minerva is a redeco of Animated Arcee, with new head antennae. Class participants can choose from G1 or Animated styling, per @Botcon.
Check her out with either antennae set in full resolution by clicking the thumbnail!

I'm just glad they had the sense to downplay Minerva's role in the convention fiction enough that I don't care if I own her or not.
Not too jazzed that know there's going to be a one in fifty figure that lots of people are going to want from now on, though. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but I spent years and years thinking the most expensive and hardest to track down items would be the older toys. I don't like the Matty model, and I'm not thrilled to see any hint of it cross over to the Transformers franchise. It certainly hasn't improved in that respect.
Ah well, at least there'll never be a G1 character I want that badly.

All right, get back on topic.

Irony. You has it.

Okay
Insane Galvatron
Exactly. He was attacking the sellers by accusing them of gouging, and then accused others of attacking him when they simply corrected him in defense of the sellers. There is a word for that…

It's probably more to do with the fact that you're more abrasive than sandpaper, and start insulting people at the drop of a hat.
Jeremy.B
It's because your posts are always aggressive and attacking other people. Like I said before, you attack others then bitch when someone calls you out.
MicromanSpyBoy
God damn. Why is it every time I post something, people always have to attack me? If I'm wrong, then just ignore me. It's really frustrating that I can't just express myself without someone having to add there two sense. Most of the time that I see someone post something off topic or opinionated, people don't hardly say anything, but when I do it, it's like "he doesn't have a TF avatar, he's not an uber-fan, let's tell him how wrong he is".
Is it the Avatar? The screen name? Is everyone on here totally pro-cat? Is it because I don't have Transformers stuff strewn all over my profile and I choose to like Microman and Diaclone toys?
Seriously, if I had as much time on my hands as you guys do, I could scan the forums all day looking for half-truths and incorrect statements and be a jerk to people who simply want to express themselves, too. Some people don't have the time to sit and do homework on every little thing. I have a job, a house, a girlfriend, 2 dogs, 2 cars, and lots of bills. Excuse the hell out of me for not being a slave to my hobby.

In fairness, it is a statement of facts. The auctions were driven that high by dedicated fans. The sellers did not gouge, they started out with reasonable bids and the market and demand did the rest.
It doesn't mean your opinion of the matter is wrong – however you might want to check those starting bids before you accuse the sellers of gouging anything.
MicromanSpyBoy
It's an opinion my friend. The only thing ridiculous is that you care enough to have to "teach" me that I'm "wrong".
Bgrngod
The level of ridiculousness in this post is… out of control. AFA graded G1's, I would bet, are more common that the Botcon Minerva figure are. So yeah, you can get them for cheaper.
The first bid on one of those auctions was 1 penny. The other was $200. The sellers are not gouging/scalping by any stretch of the imagination. The BUYERS are driving up the price.
I'll tell you straight up… this is supply and demand at work, with plenty of buyers who have the funds that allow them to outbid others.

What I find particularly amusing is that C16 got one of them and sold it. This is a guy whose signature during the height of Animated's popularity was, and I quote: "Derrick Wyatt is one of the worst things to happen to Transformers design ever."
For months.
Still, he's a competent customizer, so if anyone's going to put together a custom class figure, at least it was in good hands.
Feralstorm
I'm waiting to see if a CMHS knockoff appears in those colors myself (I'll make my own 'ears' if I have to). I've overspent for Botcon stuff before, but I ain't masochistic enough to pay 1000 or so.
MicromanSpyBoy
This fandom is out of control! I can get AFA graded G1's for that kind of money! What are we becoming, old cat-ladies?
Botcon makes a mockery of us. I just shake my head and feel so sad…
I've collected toys for YEARS both Japanese and domestic, I'll tell you straight up…this is ridiculous and shameful gouging. What's worse is that instead of trying to stop this kind of degrading scalping, 37+ people keep bidding higher and higher. For $1000+, you can ask one of the top kitbashers to make one that would be even cooler.
Miggytron
$1000+?! Really? Wow!
MicromanSpyBoy
oh GAWD! Sold? That can't be real. Someone call the asylum, there's crazy people on the loose!!!!!
hardreturn
also – if you really wanted to sell something…
