that cyclops eye & colour scheme that this Lugnut has! makes him look too similar to Shockwave.

The identity of the new Masterpiece figure will be revealed (or is it hinted?) with the base that comes along with MP-1L Convoy Final Edition. MP-1L will be released in Mar 2011.
MP-9's base is part of TakaraTomy's "Welcome to 2010" campaign. It is only available to Japanese residents via a mail in campaign using 10 cut out points from the boxes of the campaign figures (Predaking, Unicron, Primus, Sons of Cybertron Henkei/Animated, MP-4S, MP-9).

Wasn't this guy supposed to come with a voicechip base? Wasn't that base supposed to give a hint as to the identity of MP-10? Did I miss a news story along the way somewhere?

Patience is good. I have been waiting for TFSource to get theirs. They're finally in, and now just waiting for MP-09 to be shipped. In some ways I am glad it's coming later. Now I know what to look for when it comes, and how to be careful.
Timothy.R
man, it seems like there are a lot of people with little patience out there.
i'm glad that this thing sounds like a challenge, prime and grimlock are too easy. i mean, they're great and the transformation for each is what it should be. i just like a more challenging transformation. megatron and starscream for instance were extremely fun to transform, especially starscream.

maybe i was just lucky, but none of my subarus never had any problems.

The Alt Subaru mold's only problem are the arms, from my experience. If MP-09 is no worse, than I'm not too terribly concerned.

I've handled the figure for a while now and I'll second what he said. There seem to be quite a few tolerance issues. Parts don't peg together as securely as they seem to be designed to. Perhaps it's due to the soft matte finished plastic used?
I'll probably need some more time to play around with it. Perhaps everything needs to be aligned really accurately to have the clips and pegs secure tightly. Like the BT/Alt Subarus where a lot of "massaging" is required.

Man thats neat.

Try trading it for another? Maybe you just have one with bad QC?

I know about Grimmy's die-cast, but, it still really isn't that much. Just about the same amount you might find in one of MP-01's legs, give or take. However, I'm not sure how that hurts or supports my comments, I'm not really judging based on die-cast level,

SIGH.
I have never been so disappointed in a toy. I was waiting for this for so long, I looked at EVERY picture in anticipation….
This toy is a mess. It's a disaster. Nothing fits. Nothing pegs into place. The plastic is brittle and stress marks are showing right out of the box.
I think I'm going to return it. What's the point of a transformer you can never transform?

This thread by member Alexcollier would be helpful to alot of folks here:

..but MP-08 Grimlock isn't entirely made of plastic either.
Here's an example of MP-08 Grimlock diecast parts:
– Diecast dino claws (painted gold)
– Diecast bot mode shoulder connection (painted gold)
– Diecast bot mode center pelvis/crotch (painted red)

F#$% me this is one hard ^%&$^&ING transformer!!
I've been struggling for over an hour now….nothing fits…the chest had a manufacturing error i had to fix…..the legs simply WILL NOT FOLD UP.
If I hadn't paid so much for the thing I would have smashed it with a hammer by now.
Be prepared for tons of frustration here folks.

In terms of vehicle modes MP-09 looks to be in scale with both MP-01 and the Binal-tech (somewhere between 1/24 and 1/30) which works for me. I still wish Grimlock had been an inch taller and I still wish the seekers had been about 1/48 scale and hence just slightly taller than MP-01 so that the vehicle modes held some semblance of relative scale but what can you do.
The only shame with MP-09 is that the difference in height between Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime seems to be about 5mm – nice idea but not really worth it. If they'd found a way to get RP to be an inch or so taller, even as a parts former with the fake trailer cab, I'd have been happier but as is this is still the best TF I've seen since they stopped Alternity/MP Grimlock.
Any chance of a comparison shot with MP Grimlock and an Alternator/BT?

I also just want to add how Megatron isn't quite as hefty as MP-01, he's just tall, and I think that's how they kept the price down on him. I mean, you can pick the two up and feel an enourmous difference in weight.
Now, I don't have Rodimus in hand yet, unfortunately, but Grimlock is amazing IMHO, possibly better than MP-01 simply because, well there's lots of great Prime toys but not so with Grimlock. But Grimlock also feels like the most durable and playable. He's not made of medal, but he's hefty anyways and I can fiddle with him all the time where Megatron I have sort of a "look only" policy. Judging by the pics I've seen, with Rodimus we're getting another very playable figure, and it's of a character who's been under-represented in toy form. Heh, I'm just excited and really looking forward to him.

Just received this huge paperbag today
The contents inside:
Btw I'm not too concerned abt scale & whatnots, 'coz I'm feelin' good today man!

Well it really comes down to this is the "scale" they've decided to go with. MP-01 was the first one, which I assume means their first 'crack' at making a Masterpiece TF. They made him big, they made him die-cast, they made a fantastic Optimus Prime figure.
Then, I assume, but I think it's a fair guesstimate, when they went to do MP-03 Starscream, maybe due to the size of the jet mode, maybe due to r&d/production economics, they decided to go slightly smaller in regards to the 'bot mode.
Now when they went to design MP-05 Megatron, they obviously decided it would be best for MP-01/Optimus Prime's arch-nemesis Megatron to be the same size ('bot mode-wise). Which I think was a very very wise decision (can you imagine the fan-rage that would be going to this very day if Megatron was shorter/smaller than OP?)
Carry-on to the next MP Mold Grimlock, they obviously decided to go to the smaller scale, again this could be due to r&d/production, more durability?, I dont know but I think the scale works pretty darn good. Anyway, so now with no other limitations in regards to size (ie 'bot mode height), they're able to continue with the slightly shorter figures.
Can you imagine if MP-09 was the same height as MP-01? Think of the size the figure would have to be, now think of the size the 'trailer' would have to be. It would be massive… well I guess it'd be about the same size (a little shorter overall) in truck mode as MP-04. But when I think about that, I'm pretty happy with the slightly smaller scale. MP-04 already takes up a good portion of the shelf, I cant imagine having all of the figures that size.
So now, other than the two main characters in the franchise (for G1-fans at the very least) all other MPs are in a similar scale. (not counting MP-01 repaints). And if this change in size is to make them more affordable or other factors, I think it works in our favour. I can imagine if MP-09 was the same size as MP-01/04, we would be paying alot more than $200 USD for him.
Liege Prime
Well, to be fair, Rodimus and Grimlock are the same height but the seekers are smaller.
Still, while I would be stilly in saying "I don't want him any taller", I can say I didn't expect him any taller. I preorderd him way back and if you've been following his progress you could have already seen he was Grimlock's height and not Prime's. Personally, I would rather have him the height that he is and be sturdy, rather then the height of Prime or Megatron and be fragile. He seems pretty solid from what I've seen.
