Nelson; who always maintains a good friendship with Michael Bay Fans, let us in on another tidbit from Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.
When asked about the IMAX 3D version of Transformers 3, he replied…
“There will be a 3D reel but it’s not in IMAX format (70mm). IIRC, they did not use Imax cameras this time around.”
“Last I heard, these Sony 3D camera rigs aren’t 70mm.”
Nelson is referring to the Sony Pace 3D Camera. This is the same camera used by James Cameron for his movie “Avatar”. If you want to know more about the camera you can visit G4TV website and enjoy this documentary uploaded by them to YouTube, after the jump…

Eh, there aren't any IMAX theaters near where I live, or within reasonable driving distance, so it doesn't bother me. I'll probably catch one 3D showing anyway; the only movie I've seen in 3D was Avatar, and that was excellent, and I imagine giant fighting robots + Bayhem + 3D will be quite an experience.
DeathsHead
Except they didn't.
Both had a 2D release.

Becuase of the 3D on the title
DeathsHead
I think a lot of people are, myself included. With dwindling returns thanks to the home cinema market and illegal downloading I can't see anything getting much cheaper though.

I stand corrected then. All further evidence that DOTM will inevitable have a 2D release. I'm not fussed either way, I get on quite well with 3D but I'm reluctant to pay extra for the experience.
dragon
can we get hooora!!!!!! here here same thing with me & having to where pairs of glasses on top of that 2d for me if there is version 3d movies on dvd look crappy anyway
whta does this mean imax fans who like 3d concept when they get one but 2 out for one deal
MaxLinden
I was going to go to the Imax theater for this TF movie but I guess I'm not now.
DeathsHead
Nope, both had a 2D simultaneous release. They just made a big noise promoting the 3D. As you would if it brings in the revenue.

Although not shot on the IMAX cameras, it is possible to do a 'blow-up' from the 35mm negative onto 70mm IMAX film stock. Blow-ups can never achieve the clarity of detail present in native IMAX footage, but shooting digitally (the Cameron Pace rig is digital, not film) at a very high resolution should (in theory) enable a much sharper final print after the conversion.
I saw Avatar in IMAX 3D, and while that film was also NOT shot on IMAX cameras, the blow-up was perfectly enjoyable – though nothing compared to the proper stuff seen in The Dark Knight.

I don't think the last Saw & Jackass installments had 2D releases. That said, I can't see Paramount wanting to lose out on so much potential revenue by limiting DOTM to 3D only. As an example, Jackass 3D was a low-budget production so wouldn't have to rake in so much to turn a profit around.
DeathsHead
I don't understand the moaning.
Every 3D film so far (and let's be fair here – there aren't actually THAT many) has been released in a 2D version as well. Many theatres world wide are simply not set up for 3D projection so until that changes you can all rest easy that you'll get to choose how you see your films.
Smeg
So does this mean no IMAX version, or that the IMAX version will be the best way to avoid this 3D nonsense?
elctroshadow
jackass 3d and saw 3d only came out in 3d
JDF
WTF? Are people here REALLY asking whether or not there will also be a 2D version? Really? Have the EVER been to the movies? Has there been a SINGLE 3D movie that didn't ALSO come out in 2D? And given the MINISCULE amount of 3D screens for such a MASSIVE wide-release movie, do you need to even ask if a 2D version is coming out?
Really?

Im 32…….. and I totally freaking HATE 3D CRAP, you have to wear over priced glasses to even appreciate it.. and I really dont see that much "epic" difference.
I wouldnt mind it with out the glasses but even then Just give me REGULAR OLD TV from the last 50 years, I am all for HD DVD and HDTV/Blu Ray but honestly, I really dislike having something "force fed" I hope it goes the way of HD DVD and something better and less troublesome comes along! because I am not going to adopt this crap that is for sure!!!!!!
Shizuka
With the movie industry is just that, and industry. If something is working to produce more money then they'll keep at it until it stops making money. 3D is making more money so that's being incorporated into a lot of movies. What's just annoying is the sudden "explosion" of 3D movies.
If people don't like 3D movies then they should just stop complaining about it and just watch the regular 2D version.
Anyway, I saw ROTF in IMAX and I liked the size of the screen.
[Wing_Saber-X]
IMAX's ginormous screens give me dizzy/ blurry spells :/
Good news for me! Uh-huh..so i'll be passing on the 3D screens and opt for the standard ones instead. Not a complaint, just a prefrence.
Tekkaman Blade
3D costs too much and usually doesn't add much for the price of a 3D movie I can just buy it when it hits shelves.
