An auction has been listed on Taobao for Transformers Generations Red Alert, accompanied by the first publicly available picture of his alternate mode! Check out the image by clicking the thumbnail left of this story. The differences between this and the previously released Henkei Red Alert should be fairly clear – where Henkei Red Alert stuck pretty faithfully to the Generation 1 Red Alert design, this new Generations version goes for a more modern update. He also features a different lightbar compared to the Henkei version.

AAAHhhhhhh finally!!!! I can get Red Alert!!! The real one!!! I can't friggin wait!!!

I'm glad for this, and was really hoping they would do it for the Generations line. I totally forgot to pick up the Henkei version last Botcon until they'd all sold out. So I'm glad I have a chance at getting one, and for a better price.

In this case at least Hasbro went for the look of the original toy while TakTom did him up in his cartoon colors.
Sizzle
Knees. And that's really all.
I include TRU re-issue Soundblaster on my Classics shelf. I've yet to see a Soundwave–apart from Music Label, but not even that really–that tops the original.

Well, Takara mostly improved on it with the Music Label version. If that one was large enough to retain the chest-minions gimmick, it -would- be a perfect homage. But, I guess being a working mp3 player is more impressive than homaging
(as for Sideswipe, the main "issue" is the Alternators Mirage-style legs don't match how I want him to look, but it's not the only issue. Something seems off about his overall proportions… the misaligned car-roof (which is an even bigger issue on Sunstreaker, as it's his chest) is a nuisance, his shoulders are awkward since they're attached to the wheels, and, really, I just don't feel his headsculpt. The toy itself is a fun one, and I like the color scheme, but overall I feel the mold is better on Sunstreaker)

Somethings just don't need improving….sometimes I think they make a transformation complicated just for the sake of doing it.
I don't see how they can improve on Soundwave to be honest…

Bingo
Sizzle
G1 Sideswipe, who I still have, in the form of a TRU re-issue that sits on display MISB, is good for just that. Display and minty goodness in a box.
Universe Sideswipe is a good looking toy that I can PLAY WITH, pose and take into battle.
As a child, I'm telling you, I'd have chosen Universe Sideswipe every time. Fuck that other shit.
Perhaps a more apt comparison would be G1 and Classics Bumblebee. I would've thrown that little G1 shit away if I could have had Classics back in the day. Hell, even LEGENDS universe Bee would've won the day.

Helmet needs to be red! Somebody dropped the ball again…WAH wah WAH wah…….

Heh, I agree completely with your collection focus, except for the fact that you used Sideswipe as an example. G1 Sideswipe is my favorite of the "Autobot Car" molds, and as far as I'm concerned, Universe (and Alternators) Sideswipe still haven't done him justice Not that they're bad toys, but I just like his sleek, simple character design… so simple that they can't seem to replicate it (much like Sound-N-ShockWaves)
And yet, as I said before, I'll have 5 of his mold by the time this year is out.
Ruination04
Yes!
Sizzle
My collection is almost purely Classics/Universe and now Generations. This figure fills an important gap.
Personally, I'm not insistent on slavish attention to G1 detail. I rather enjoy the "updated" look. What I really look for (and consistently get) in this line are toys that–could I travel back in time and show them to myself as a child–would make me throw away my G1 toys in favor of the new one. I ain't gonna lie to ya…G1 Sideswipe would have been buried in the toybox forever if I'd have had Universe Sideswipe to play with. Same with Red Alert.
So the Generations decals are more than enough for me.
Like I said, give me the damn toy already!
PorkChopKB
nice! glad I didn't fork out the $$ for the henkei version. can't wait until release day!
Johnator
Looks great. Generations is definitely THE Transformers toyline for this year.
Angelwave
Well simply put. TakTom goes for retro, Hasbro goes for modern. All in all, we have choices. Neither one is better than the other.
Ruination04
The bottom red stripe on the henkei is too thick. It clashes with the front turn signal. Also the Generations lightbar covers up those holes on the roof that the henkei version apparently doesn't. Not to mention the henkei looks like it needs another coat of white paint up there!
Don't really care for the chrome on the henkei's. Looks like they put chrome on randomly just to add it.
I think I have seen that font on real emergency vehicles before. I can't wait to get this toy!
Foster
Same here.

I would much rather have a G1 Breakdown. IMO
Foster
That font reminds me of G2 Sideswipe and his "SS" deco. Maybe Hasbro is planning him too?
Lock Cade
Yay! Can't wait to get my hands on him! Even more so since I've been unable to get the Henkei version.
